Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 – Say hello to the much awaited successor to the success that was the Samsung Galaxy SII – the Samsung Galaxy SIII. Currently in the market and battling it out with other top competition like the HTC One X, iPhone 4S, Nokia Lumia 900 and Sony Xperia S, the Galaxy SIII still comes out in the top. Heck it even won the Phone of the Year award at the 2012 T3 Gadget Awards. That definitely vouches for the phone’s credibility and reliability. Now let’s cut to the chase. What exactly makes the Samsung Galaxy SIII tick? What makes it continuously gain favourable reviews among critics? And not forgetting, what makes the consumers love it so much? Let’s get right to it.

The Samsung Galaxy SIII’s display is a whopping 4.8 inches and it is undeniably large. However, what makes it appealing is its irrefutable slimness and this makes it very easy to handle. What helps further is its gloss finish which makes holding it feel like holding nothing but a large pebble. Although some users might feel that the glossy coat looks ‘plasticky’, it is still comfortingly solid and does not flex or creak like some other smartphones in the market do. Once you get used to its size in your hands, you will start to appreciate how powerful the screen really is. With 4.8 inches of high-resolution Super AMOLED screen, the Galaxy SIII makes playing back videos a pleasurable viewing experience rivalling that of the tablets.

The experience is further enhanced thanks to the screen’s vibrant colours and contrasting schemes, demonstrating the amount of effort put into coming up with it. The display uses Corning Gorilla Glass 2 that has been upgraded to be more responsive and supposedly let the colours shine brighter. However this does not fully translate out of the paper because as vibrant as the colours of the screen are when the Samsung Galaxy SIII stands alone, when placed in comparison to Samsung’s main competition, HTC’s One X, the colours appear washed out. With regard to screen brightness, the Galaxy SIII also comes with a wide range of individual power-saving checks and balances, so that you can choose when to increase the brightness and when not to.

Like its predecessor, the Galaxy SIII also comes with an 8-megapixel camera that is equipped with backlit sensor and LED flash for optimum photography moments. Furthermore the Samsung Galaxy SIII also comes with a multitude of extra software feature to enhance the user experience. There is face-tagging where the software recognises faces and also the burst which allows you to either take 20 frames in quick succession or choose your favourites of eight burst shots. The taken photos generally appear with bright colours and sharp edges, but the Galaxy SIII’s camera is not without its flaws. The white balance of indoor shots was problematic and so did the shadows of outdoor shots. Meanwhile the photos of stretching landscapes were more out of focus than the photos of the close-ups.

Digi, one of the main mobile network operators of Malaysia now offers the Samsung Galaxy SIII for only RM1219 under the DG Smart Plan 88 even though the recommended retail price is at RM1999. Meanwhile Celcom offers the same phone for RM1298 with a variety of monthly commitments that range from RM78 to RM208 to choose from. Maxis’ price for its Galaxy SIII differs according to the duration of the contract and the amount of monthly data desired by the user; and the prices range from RM1299 to 1699. Under the Youth Communication Package, youths are able to own a Galaxy SIII thanks to Celcom and Digi. Celcom’s Galaxy SIII under the package is only RM1098 with the Celcom First Elite plan while Digi’s Galaxy SIII under the package is only RM899 again with the DG Smart Plan 88. The fact that all the leading networks are in the race to sell the Galaxy SIII obviously demonstrates the force that is the Galaxy SIII.
